Lake Arts Council

Lake Arts Council

Founded in 1983, the Lake Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing the arts in our community. Our mission is to cultivate and promote the arts at Lake of the Ozarks, and to educate, enrich, and entertain our community by supporting local artists and performers. The lake area is rich with talent in visual, literary, and performing arts, and the Lake Arts Council works to support and encourage our local artists as well as bringing in touring performers and artists to enrich our community. We work in partnership with the Missouri Arts Council, the Missouri Association of Community Arts Agencies, and many local allied art groups to promote the arts, not only for the people who live here, but also for the many annual visitors to the Lake of the Ozarks.

Annual events presented by the Lake Arts Council include the Variety Showcase featuring a variety of local performers, Student Art Quest and Photo Quest for elementary and secondary students, the Spring Art Show exhibition and contest for visual artists, MizzouRah Homegrown Theatre for Children which is a week-long theater camp for students K-12, Photo Quest exhibition and contest for amateur photographers, Ivories and Harmonies – an afternoon of inspirational music featuring local musicians, and Festival of the Arts showcasing the work of local artists and artisans.

Through the support from local businesses and individuals, as well as grants from agencies and foundations, we can provide the annual local events and bring in touring performers and artists like the Missouri Symphony for an annual summer concert. Our allied art groups also present their own events throughout the year.

The Lake Arts Council contributes to the quality of life in our community by supporting the arts. According to Americans for the Arts, an active arts community helps raise improve graduation rates, increase college enrollment, improve the business climate, provide a more stable work force, expand year-round employment, improve family stability, improve lives of returning veterans, strengthen the economy, increase tourism, and improve community health.
