Welcome to LOZlocal.com – your launchpad for all things Lake of the Ozarks. We’re not here to snoop, but when you interact with our site, some information gets collected. Here’s what that means – plain and simple.
Who We Are
We’re LOZlocal – a locally-run directory built by real people who love the lake life. You can find us online at: https://lozlocal.com.
What We Collect (and Why)
Comments
If you drop a comment on the site, we collect what you type, plus your IP address and browser info to help us kick spammers to the curb.
If you use Gravatar, your profile pic might show up next to your comment. Want to see what Gravatar does with your info? Click here.
Media
Uploading photos? Cool – just make sure you strip out any hidden GPS info. Otherwise, folks might be able to figure out exactly where you took that pic.
Cookies (Not the Chocolate Chip Kind)
We use cookies to make your experience smoother. Here’s how they roll:
- Leave a comment? We’ll save your name/email in a cookie for next time. (Lasts one year.)
- Log in? We’ll remember that – for a few days, unless you hit “Remember Me” (then it’s two weeks).
- Log out? Cookies are gone.
- Editing content? A cookie will remember which post you’re working on (for a day).
Basically, cookies help the site run better. No creepy stuff.
Embedded Content
Some pages may have videos, maps, or other stuff embedded from other sites (like YouTube, Instagram, or Google). When that happens, those sites might track you as if you were visiting them directly. We don’t control that. Just a heads-up.
Who We Share Data With
Only when absolutely necessary – like when you reset your password and we include your IP in the reset email (for security reasons). Otherwise, we don’t sell or rent your data. That’s not our style.
How Long We Keep Your Stuff
- Comments: Stays on the site forever unless you ask us to delete it.
- Registered users: Your profile data is kept as long as you keep your account. You can edit or delete your info any time (except your username).
- Admins: Can view and manage that info, to keep things tidy.
Your Data, Your Call
You can request:
- A file of the personal data we’ve got on you.
- That we delete all your data (except what we legally have to keep – like for tax or security stuff).
Email us at [email protected] if you want to make a request.
Marketing Messages (Email & SMS)
If you give us your email or phone number – whether you’re claiming a listing, signing up for updates, or just saying hi – we might send you some cool stuff. This could be event reminders, new listings, lake news, or the occasional “you need to see this” kind of message.
But don’t worry – we’re not blowing up your inbox or phone. And if we ever do, you can:
- Click “unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email.
- Reply “STOP” to any SMS, and we’ll stop faster than a boat hitting a no-wake zone.
We follow all the rules (yeah, even the boring ones) like CAN-SPAM for emails and TCPA for texts. We’ll never sell your info, and you can always reach out to us if you’ve got questions about what you’re getting. Hit us up at [email protected].
Where Your Data Goes
Comments may go through spam checkers – automated tools that help keep LOZlocal free from trolls and bots.
Questions?
If you’ve got questions, shoot us a message. We’re here to help – no suits, no legalese, just straight talk.
